I started The Hook Up in 2003. I wanted to combine my tech support and sales backgrounds to create a hybrid audio/video business unlike any other. My goal was to give consumer electronics customers a better choice than the high-end boutique type audio/video companies or the retail audio/video stores.
It is very difficult wading through the choices available to consumers when purchasing electronics these days. It’s easy to drop a product in your online cart, a few more clicks and it’s on the way to your home. Was the right product purchased for your needs? Unfortunately in most cases the answer to that question is no. Then comes the set up. You could surf through YouTube videos and hope you find one that meets your needs. You can contact the manufacturer, spend time on hold, hoping for a competent tech. And if you want to incorporate an older piece of equipment into your system, YouTube or the manufacturer will not help you with that. I speak with my customers, discover their needs, sell them the proper equipment for those needs and install the devices correctly, saving them time and aggravation. I teach my customers how to use their new equipment and respond quickly if any problems arise.
Operating The Hook Up in this manner has proven very popular with the people of Phoenix and surrounding areas. Over the years I’ve grown a culturally diverse, wonderful clientele, people who supported me over the years with referrals, repeat business and outstanding reviews. Since Phoenix has such a transitory population, customers would often mention, I wish this service was available in the other city I live in. The customers were right, I needed to bring this service to other cities.
In 2015 I decided Santa Fe, New Mexico would be the location for the second Hook Up. Having attended high school and college in New Mexico, bringing my successful business back to the state I lived in so many years was a perfect choice.
In early 2016 I met Jordan Spear. He’s young, smart, and experienced in A/V wiring and installation and skilled in troubleshooting audio/video products. He was the perfect candidate for taking over operations of The Hook Up Phoenix. I spent four months training Jordan in operation and company mission. In June of 2016 I left Phoenix to open my second location. In my thirteen and half years of operating The Hook Up Phoenix, I made nearly 6000 in home house calls, phone tech support calls and consultations.
During the first year and a half, after leaving Phoenix I dabbled using multiple techs with Jordan still handling most of the calls. The experiment didn’t work out well. The Hook Up model I initially established worked better as a sole proprietorship. In March of 2018, Jordan became Head of Phoenix Operations. Assisted by his wife Devin, Jordan has done a fantastic job, (and a difficult one, stepping into my shoes), taking care of Hook Up customers in Phoenix. I do provide Jordan real time tech support, so if he needs help, I am a text or phone call away. Be assured Phoenix customers, you will continue to get the same great service that The Hook Up has become known for.
In March of 2017, I opened the second Hook Up location in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This location allows me to work in Los Alamos, Albuquerque and surrounding areas. Now in year three, The Hook Up Santa Fe continues to gain a fan base.
So what does the future hold for The Hook Up? I will continue to support Jordan and the Phoenix location. The growth in Santa Fe will continue. Jordan and I will soon embark in adding more locations, considering The Hook Up has proven successful in two very different markets. Do you know anyone who would like to branch out, and run a third Hook Up location under our leadership? If so, please reach out to me.
